I made a precision gearbox - with NO GEARS.
If you want to build your own Cyloidal drive, let www.pcbway.com take care of the machining.
This was one heck of a project, but I made it in the end. A (nearly) zero-backlash 4th axis for my home made milling machine.
If you want to follow the projects a little closer, head over to www.patreon.com/NotAnEngineer.
@InheritanceMachining had to build a bigger box of shame because of me, go watch that NOW: ruclips.net/video/uQQH8XzlgVU/видео.htmlsi=NrNNeq5qd045CpV7

I made a steady rest because I suck at planning
Просмотров 110 тыс.6 месяцев назад
A failure to plan, is a plan to fail, that is, unless you're like me and won't let anything stand between you and a bad idea. I designed a part that's too big for the machines I have access too; the sensible option would've been to scale back my hopes and dreams, but instead I cobbled together a brand-spankin' new steady rest. With a little help from the home-made milling machine. If you want t...
I "fixed" this cheap Chinese tool
Просмотров 266 тыс.7 месяцев назад
I was sick of manual tool changes on my DIY CNC Milling machine, so I bought this cheap BT30 spindle with automatic tool change capability from AliExpress on impulse. It wasn't long before I started to regret it. Watch me stumble my way through two (2) attempts at taper grinding, and finally settle for a barbaric final solution. If it wasn't clear from the video, you should NOT buy this spindle...

When measuring backlash your dial gage arm is flexing a bit which means it is not solid enough. Now when you change its configuration i.e. extending it or shortening it to measure backlash at a different location it is going to experience a different torque which will change your expected backlash readout. I would suggest you to mount the dial gauge to a solid grounded structure and try again to get more consistent results.

A suggestion! At my shop, we locate out parts by setting a .250” pin in the spindle and sending it to the edge of the part in order to use it like a vise stop. In the case of your fingers you could very easily send the spindle above where the hole should be, then placing the parts in the vise and allowing the spindle to drop into the hole and sliding the part against the pin and tightening.
